Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery accepts one fellow for a year-long fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery.

This American Head and Neck Society accredited fellowship stresses the multidisciplinary management of head and neck malignancies, and includes a primary clinical experience focused on head and neck oncologic resection and reconstruction including microvascular reconstruction. The fellow also gains experience with transoral laser and robotic resection, transnasal endoscopic paranasal sinus and skull base resections, maxillofacial trauma surgery and open anterior skull base surgery. Working with expert head and neck oncologic and microvascular surgeons during the flap experience, the fellow performs more than 100 free flaps per year. The fellow is appointed as a clinical instructor with an experience including both mentored and independent clinical responsibilities in both the operating room and outpatient clinic setting.

The fellow will follow the AHNS educational/didactic curriculum as well as the University of Wisconsin’s curriculum. The fellow will have the opportunity to participate in clinical and basic science research facilitated by world-class scientists. The ideal fellow has a strong interest in an academic career in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction, and demonstrates a commitment to the education of medical students, residents and visiting clinicians.   • Comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluation and management of cutaneous and mucosal squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
  • Local, regional, and free tissue transfer reconstruction of ablative and traumatic defects of the head and neck
  • Transoral laser and robotic techniques
  • Transnasal endoscopic skull base technique
  • Salivary gland neoplasm and sialendoscopy techniques
  • Thyroid gland neoplasm management
  • Facial nerve grafting and facial reanimation techniques
  • Endoscopic management of anterior skull base neoplasms

This fellowship is accredited through the American Head & Neck Society (AHNS).
