Visiting medical student electives are available for senior medical students interested in otolaryngology or audiology. These rotations generally last four weeks, occur between July and November of the senior year, and are competitively approved and arranged by a faculty committee within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Applications are accepted from January 1, 2025 to March 31, 2025*.
* Visiting students may apply after the March 31, 2025 deadline, but acceptance will depend on availability and space.
Application Process
- Submit a current CV and a personal statement to the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Surgery Education Office at otoMedEd@med.wisc.edu
- In mid-April, the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery will notify potential applicants that they are approved to apply
- In late-April/May, after receiving approval to apply, complete the process outlined on the school’s Medical Student Electives web page
- Formally apply and receive approval to visit the School of Medicine and Public Health and Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Until this step is complete, the elective is not considered to be officially approved
Medical students from underrepresented backgrounds in surgery and interested in pursuing a career in otolaryngology are encouraged to apply for the Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) Visiting Elective Scholarship. Applications received before May 1 are given priority.
We look forward to meeting and working with you!
