Paula Demetrio de Souza Franca

Dr. Demetrio was born in the vibrant city of São Paulo, Brazil, where she completed her medical training, including residencies in general surgery and head and neck surgery. Her passion for combining medicine and science led her to New York City, where she completed a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, focusing on molecular imaging and theranostics. Outside of work, Dr. Demetrio loves exploring—whether it’s discovering hidden spots around Madison, relaxing by the lakeshore, road-tripping through Wisconsin, or jetting off to new destinations around the globe. From quiet, deserted beaches to the bright lights of a buzzing metropolis, she’s happiest when she’s near water—and even happier when she’s dancing the night away with friends. What makes Madison such an amazing place to call home? The fantastic otolaryngology training, excellent operative experience, and the strong sense of camaraderie among residents. Add to that top-notch research facilities and welcoming, collaborative lab teams, and it’s clear why she’s proud to be part of this program.
