Visiting medical student electives are available for senior medical students interested in otolaryngology or audiology. These rotations generally last four weeks, occur between July and November of the senior year, and are competitively approved and arranged by a faculty committee within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.
Applications are accepted January through March each year. Visiting students may apply after the March deadline, but acceptance will depend on availability and space.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submit an application to the Department of Otolaryngology here to include the following:

- Personal Statement/Letter of Interest
- Current CV
In Mid-April, the Department of Otolaryngology: Head & Neck Surgery will notify potential applicants that they are approved to apply.

- The applicant will need to review the UW SMPH Visiting Medical Student Clerkship Program page for specific University of Wisconsin policies regarding visiting students. This will also include formally applying through VSLO
- Candidates must fulfill all UWSMPH application and onboarding requirements to be fully approved for a rotation.
The Department of Otolaryngology: Head & Neck Surgery does not accept international visiting students in their electives, per UWSMPH policy.

Final dates for 2026 – 2027 will be posted after Match Day. Tentative rotation dates are:
- 7/6/2026 – 7/31/2026
- 8/3/2026 – 8/28/2026
- 8/31/2026 – 9/25/2026
- 9/28/2026 – 10/23/2026
- 10/26/2026 – 11/20/2026
